BUSH FIRE ASSESSMENT

A Bush Fire Assessment is required for all developments that are proposed on bush fire prone land, including bush fire buffer. Most Councils have their bush fire prone land map available on their website.

The purpose of the Bush Fire Assessment is to demonstrate that the proposed development satisfies the aim and objectives of the publication 'Planning for Bush Fire Protection 2006', which include:

  • Affording building occupants adequate protection from bush fire,
  • Providing defendable space around buildings,
  • Providing appropriate separation between the bush fire hazard and buildings,
  • Ensuring safe operational access for emergency services,
  • Providing for ongoing management and maintenance,
  • Ensuring utility services are adequate.

If your development is on bush fire prone land, Innovation Planning Australia can prepare a bush fire assessment that meets the requirements of Planning for Bush Fire Protection 2006 to facilitate a smooth assessment by the Rural Fire Service.
